  • Adult Education

    Adult Education

    The Adult Education program helps Tennesseans build critical skills and knowledge. Our classes help you improve your math, reading, and writing skills. We also teach English language classes. We help you get your high school equivalency (HiSET, also known as GED) and gain important workforce preparation skills. Our program helps you advance to a college or training program, or to get a better job. 

  • Employment Service Program

    Employment Service Program

    The Employment Services Program helps Tennesseans find meaningful job opportunities. This program provides labor exchange services, which include job search assistance, job referral, and placement assistance for jobseekers.

  • Senior Employment Program

    Senior Employment Program

    The Senior Employment program provides training and work experiences for adults 55 and older that are currently unemployed and looking to update their skills. This program helps seniors find work. It offers a variety of work experiences -- for example: teacher’s aides, nurse’s aides, library clerks, adult/child day care assistance, and maintenance workers. If you're eligible for the Senior Employment program, you're likely eligible for other services as well! Use our service matching tool to find the services right for you.

  • Unemployed or Laid-off Workers

    Unemployed or Laid-off Workers

    The Unemployed or Laid-off Worker Program offers training and career opportunities to Tennesseans who have recently lost their job. This program focuses on identifying any challenges that may keep an individual from finding a new job or education. It matches people with the best job and/or educational program that meets their unique needs and goals.

  • Workforce Development Program for Individuals Affected by Foreign Trade

    Workforce Development Program for Individuals Affected by Foreign Trade

    This program provides education and employment opportunities for workers who have lost their job due to foreign trade. Individuals can us this program to get the skills, resources, and support they need to find a new job. This program is considered a work-first program. So, searching for a suitable job is required before some services can be requested. You must be covered by a federally Certified Trade Petition to request services.

  • Workforce Development Program for Recipients of Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF)

    Workforce Development Program for Recipients of Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF)

    Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, also known as TANF, provides assistance to low-income families with children. This program emphasizes work, training and personal responsibility. One of the requirements of the TANF program is that the participant complete a 30-hour workweek requirement (unless exempt). At the American Job Center, we can get you connected with a job and/or training programs that not only fulfills this requirement, but also help you gain independence.

    Youth Program (for out-of-school youth)

    The Youth Program empowers young people to take control of their futures through education and training opportunities. This program helps individuals remove the challenges that keep them from completing school or getting a job. The Youth program will help you sharpen your current skills, learn new ones, get meaningful work experience, and more. Every youth in Tennessee will have access to and knowledge of the tools needed to achieve financial stability. Every youth in every county is career-bound!

    The Adult Worker Program equips Tennesseans with the tools and resources needed to secure a long-term career. Our services are focused on getting you the help you need to get a job or find the training program that meets your goals.

  • Migrant and Seasonal Farm Worker Program (MSFW)

    Migrant and Seasonal Farm Worker Program (MSFW)

    The Migrant and Seasonal Farmworker Program focuses on finding work for unemployed or underemployed farmworkers. This program helps farmworkers and their families achieve self-sufficiency through employment, maintain their job, and upgrade their skills training for future opportunities.

  • SNAP Employment and Training

    SNAP Employment and Training

    The SNAP Employment and Training Program helps individuals currently enrolled in the SNAP program achieve their career and educational goals. The program empowers participants with funded education opportunities, skills training, and other supportive services that help an individual achieve success.

  • Veterans Program

    Veterans Program

    The Veteran Program focuses on providing career and training opportunities to veterans and other eligible veteran persons (see eligibility requirements) who are experiencing barriers to employment or education. The Veteran Program provides job-related services, training information, skills assessment, individualized career and educational counseling, resume preparation and much more. This program ensures that veterans are first in-line to get help at the American Job Centers.

    Workforce Development Program for Individuals with Disabilities

    The Workforce Development Program for Individuals with Disabilities empowers you to maximize your career potential, independence, and integration into their community. These services include job counseling, work experiences, training/education opportunities, and other supportive services that help you achieve your career goals. Counselors for this program are located in many, but not all American Job Centers. Check out the Department of Human Services website to find out how to get in touch with someone.
